Elvera Vehlow passed away suddenly in Kamloops BC, Canada, on July 15, 2017 at 94 years of age. Born in Chicago Illinois on September 14, 1922, she is survived by her daughter Carol Lynn (Rainer) Schmid of British Columbia, and son Robert A. (Kathleen) Vehlow of Illinois. Grandchildren Matthias (Caroline) and Katie Schmid, Lisa (Phil) Brennen, Kristine Vehlow and Robert D. (Sarah) Vehlow. Great grandchildren Kyle, McKenna, Lauren and Keegan Brennen, Luke and Aiden Vehlow. Elvera was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband of 55 years, Robert; parents Samuel and Maude Sundvik, sister Maude, and twin brothers George and Samuel.
Elvera attended business college in Chicago. She worked as an executive secretary until she and Robert started their family. Elvera later worked as an office manager and copywriter for an advertising agency to “help put her kids through university.”
Elvera enjoyed tennis, dance and roller skating as a youth. She was a devoted member of Bethany Methodist Church in Chicago. She was a choir member, Lay Minister, president of the Women’s Society and ‘poet laureate’ of the church. Sailing on Lake Michigan was a family passion. Elvera continued to enjoy sailing in British Columbia well into her senior years.
Elvera was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be truly missed.
Burial with her cherished husband, Robert, will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado. Donations in memory of Elvera Vehlow to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
