Leone Marie Utne passed away peacefully in Kamloops on March 22, 2017 with her loving family by her side.
Leone was born on April 9, 1918, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the first of five daughters born to Ervin and Alice (Marcheldon) Coldiron. She grew up on the family farm in Witchekan, Saskatchewan, riding horses and caring for the animals. She married Roger Williams and together they had three children, Alice, Willard and Ervin. After moving to Vancouver, B.C in 1947, Leone worked as a seamstress at the Pearson Sanatorium for a short time before moving to Vancouver General Hospital, where she worked as a housekeeper for 25 years. It was at VGH where she fell in love with Ed Utne, whom she married in 1973. Together, Leone and Ed loved working in their garden and travelling across Canada and the USA. After, Ed’s passing, Leone moved to Kamloops, B.C. to be close to her children and grandchildren.
Leone is survived by daughter, Alice Horie (Malcolm) and sons Williard Williams and Ervin Williams (Lynda); sisters Jenny Brass from Burnaby, B.C, Evelyn (Willis) Scott from Vegreville, Alta, and Bertha McMillan from Sacramento, Calif.; grandchildren Randy (Lynn) Sunderman, Robert (Sheena) Sunderman, Kenneth (Allyson) Sunderman, Kelly (Darcie) Sunderman, Jacqueline (Vince) Pelton, Brandon Williams and Jason Williams; great-grandchildren Joshua, Mary, Brett, Reed, Ian, Sam, Ashlyn, William, Zachary, Ben, Naomi and Mason; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Leone was predeceased by husband Edwin Utne, father Ervin Coldiron, mother Alice Coldiron and sister Louise Gaborieau.
Leone’s family wishes to thank Dr. Chip Bantock and all the wonderful staff at Overlander Extended Care Hospital for the excellent care she received over the past 6 years. A celebration of Leone’s life will be held April 8, 2017 at 10:00am at Schoening’s Funeral Home, 513 Seymour St, Kamloops.
