March 16, 1949 – May 18, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Thomas (Tommy 110) Akira Iio on May 18, 2025, at the age of 76. Born and raised in Kamloops, B.C., Tom spent his entire life in the community he loved, passing peacefully at Royal Inland Hospital, where he was also born.
Tom was predeceased by his beloved parents, Kamizo Iio and Hatsue Kitamura. He leaves behind his siblings, June Butler (Joe) and Lilian Iio (Bob Young); his children, Bobby (Bambi Iio), Jodi, and Brandi; and his two grandsons, Brynn and Asher Iio, who he was incredibly proud of and loved dearly. He is also remembered by his former wife and mother of his children, Linda Iio (née Sawyer), along with many extended family members, friends, and colleagues who will miss him deeply.
Tom had a long and successful career as a carpenter, contributing to the construction of many homes and large projects throughout Kamloops and the surrounding areas. Known for his skilled hands and tireless work ethic, he took great pride in his craft and generously passed on his knowledge to others.
Outside of work, Tom was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved nature and spent countless hours sharing his passions and teaching others—whether it was casting a line, tracking game, or showing someone how to swing a hammer. He was a natural mentor and a true outdoorsman.
Tom was well-liked and respected in all circles—a reliable, hard-working, and dependable man. His presence was steady and his heart was generous. He made a lasting impact on all who knew him. Many a fisherperson can attest to being helped untangle a ball of fishing line or hook their first fish of the day.
A service to celebrate Tom’s life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Schoening Funeral Home. Following the service, there will be a reception and celebration of life at Bobby’s home, located at 157 Nicola St. W. Everyone is welcome. Please come, have a drink, enjoy some food, share stories, and pay your respects.
Tom would love nothing more than for family, friends, and community members to come together, share a laugh or a memory, and celebrate the life he lived so fully.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Iio family.
