Terrance "Terry" Raymond Underwood

Posted Jan 30, 2026 | 3:41 PM

October 14, 1949 — January 28, 2026

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Terrance Raymond Underwood on January 28, 2026, at the age of 76, following a short battle with cancer.

Terry grew up in Montrose, British Columbia, raised by his loving parents, Ellen and Ray Underwood. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Kootenays, it was during family camping trips that Terry developed a deep love for nature. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother Don. After completing high school, Terry attended Selkirk College before transferring to the University of British Columbia to study geological engineering. After spending several summers prospecting in the central interior, he decided to shift his focus to civil engineering. While at UBC, Terry met his future wife, Linda. They married in July 1973 and moved to Kamloops where they built their life and family.

Family meant everything to Terry. He was truly selfless and always put the needs of others before his own. He created opportunities for those around him, especially for his three sons. He had an incredible ability to balance work and life and never missed a single hockey or ball game. Weekends were spent together as a family—golfing, skiing, camping, or, of course, fishing.

Terry will be remembered as a principled, thoughtful, and dedicated civil engineer and as the founder of TRUE Consulting. He leaves a lasting legacy in the engineering profession and in the many communities he served across British Columbia. Terry believed strongly in building genuine relationships with his clients, grounded in honesty, trust, and respect. Through this approach, he had a profound and positive impact on countless people and communities.

Terry was talented in many other ways as well, and there was rarely a time when he didn’t have a project on the go. He was a master craftsman, lifelong problem solver—plumber, carpenter, electrician, irrigation specialist, and landscape assistant all in one. He could fix, build or create just about anything. Outside of family and work, Terry’s greatest love was fishing and the outdoors. He was happiest on the water or hiking local trails. Heffley Lake was his sanctuary. He taught every son and grandchild how to fish and, together with Linda, hosted an annual family fishing derby on the May long weekend—a perfect blend of his love for family and the outdoors.

In more recent years, Terry decided to join Linda and become a member of the Kamloops Duplicate Bridge Club. This led to the formation of many new relationships and opportunities to travel with best friends to various tournaments both on land and sea. He also tried his hand at pickleball and his teammates will always remember number 6.

Terry leaves behind his wife and soulmate, Linda; his sons David (Kathy), Steven (Denise), and Tyler (Meghan); and his beloved grandchildren Conner and Carson (David), Nicola, Cooper, and Kaitlyn (Steven), and Kenzie and Zella (Tyler). Terry was immensely proud of his sons, his daughters-in-law, and his grandchildren. Family was always his first priority.

A celebration of Terry’s life will be held at Schoening Funeral Service, 513 Seymour Street, Kamloops, on Saturday, February 21st at 2:00 pm. Donations in Terry’s memory may be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice Home or the BC Cancer Foundation.
