May 26, 1949 – July 4, 2022

Sylvia Elaine Rogers (nee Fellner), age 73, passed away in her sleep on Monday, July 4th, 2022, at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, B.C.

Sylvia is survived by her loving children Katie (Greg) Cavaletto, John (Lara Ebert), and Melinda (Chris) Hunter.  Sylvia is also fondly remembered by her six grandchildren – Logan Cavaletto, Mia Hunter, Courtney Hunter, Owen Hunter, Alexis Cavaletto and Sophia Rogers.  She also leaves behind her sisters Margaret Mander, Doris (Stan) Ashbee, Shirley (Paul Stromness) Kroeger, brother Robert Fellner and sister-in-law Marge Sutton.  Sylvia will be missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many cherished friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband David Rogers, her brother George Sutton and her parents Frederick and Mary Fellner.

Mom was born on May 26th, 1949, in Oliver, B.C. She was raised in Osoyoos, B.C.  Mom talked fondly of her childhood and enjoyed living on a farm for some of her childhood.  Mom loved school and received perfect attendance throughout her high school years.  She attended UBC and UVIC where she pursued her Bachelor of Education.  Mom was just a few credits short of her degree when she was asked if she could start teaching sooner as there was a shortage of teachers in the province.  She was given a choice of three communities and decided upon Castlegar, B.C. to begin her career.  Mom taught in Castlegar for many years.  In 1978, mom moved to Kamloops, B.C. and that same year met our dad and the love of her life. They were married on June 16th, 1979.  Mom and dad enjoyed raising their three children in Kamloops and their children and grandchildren were their greatest joy.  In 1991, mom decided to go back to teaching.  Mom was a teacher-on-call for the Kamloops School District from 1991-2008. She loved being a teacher and was often the first one at the school and one of the last to leave.  Mom developed many long-lasting friendships through teaching and various volunteer organizations she was involved in.  Mom volunteered at Overlander Extended Care, the Canadian Daughters League, the ACW at her church and she held many volunteer positions at schools through the years.  Mom was an active member of St. George’s Anglican Church for over 40 years. She valued her faith and all the wonderful people she met.

Mom was the most gentle and caring woman.  She really was the sweetest person on earth.  Mom was always learning and loved music, art and reading.  Her love of books was second to none.  She loved gardening, canning, biking and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it.  Mom was taught by our great grandmother how to make shortbread.  She was known for this famous shortbread, and we all looked forward to tasting it at Christmas time.  Mom was a proud mom and Gram. She was always asking what the grandkids were doing in school and was always so supportive.  Her family was her greatest joy.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Bedford Manor, who took wonderful care of mom in her last few years.  She missed dad greatly and the staff and friends she met helped her tremendously in a very difficult time. We would also like to thank the wonderful staff at RIH.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 17th, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at St. George’s Anglican Church, 308 Royal Ave, Kamloops, B.C. with Reverend John Boyd officiating.
