May 2, 1930 – February 27, 2025
Late in the evening on Thursday, February 27, 2025, Sophie peacefully passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
Sophie was in her 95th year, and after living a life filled with teaching, friends, travelling, and most importantly the love of her family, she was longing to join her husband, Neil, and step into her eternal life.
Sophie and Neil’s legacy lives on through their children: Lorin (Tanni), Rick (Ruth), Annette (Ken) Lougheed, Michelle, and Monique (Greg) Kortzman, their grandchildren Jakob (Freya), Leah (Masen), Jonas (Christina), Nicola (Nigel), Mackenzie (Tyler), Anna, Madeline (Dawson), Alexander, Abigail (Garrett), Olivia (Sam), Noah, Meredith (Nathan), Molly, and Benjamin, and their great-grandchildren Emery, Raine, Sophie, Bowen, Hazel, and Paisley. Sophie is lovingly remembered by her brothers Paul and John (Doris), her sister in-law Lily, and her brothers-in-law Jack, Harry (Carole), and Walter (Gaye), and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Sophie is predeceased by her sisters Freida and Clara, and her brother Ernie.
Sophie touched the lives of many students during her long teaching career, first as an elementary teacher and then as a Foods & Sewing teacher in several Kamloops secondary schools. Her sincere passion for teaching resonated with students of all ages.
Sophie was raised in a Christian home and at the age of 12 committed her life to Christ during a revival meeting at her family’s country church near Main Centre, Saskatchewan. Throughout her life, Sophie freely shared her faith and her gift of hospitality which had been instilled by her parents.
A Celebration of Sophie’s life will be held at a later date.
