Sieghard A. Imhof

Posted Aug 28, 2025 | 1:49 PM

November 11, 1934 — August 15, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Sieghard Arthur Imhof. He was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and was residing at the Kamloops Senior village, where he passed away peacefully on Friday August 15, 2025 at the age of 90. Sieg was predeceased by his parents Arthur & Helena Imhof and his brother Manfred. Sieg is survived by his wife Shona McVeigh, his family in Germany, brother Wolfgang Imhof & family, nephew Lars Heinrich (wife Peggy), close family friends in Kamloops, Maureen Macleod, Leanne Amendola (Kevin), Christine Macleod (Ryan) and long time friends Dave & Rosaline Clark.

Sieg was born on November 11, 1934, in the town of Neuwurschnitz in the region of Erzgebirge, Germany. He lived there with his parents and his two brothers Wolfgang and Manfred until he was 13 years old. In 1947, the family moved to Berlin in the American sector. It was there, his love of the American way of life, language and music was awakened. In Berlin, he trained as a toolmaker and at the age of 18 he applied to emigrate to Canada because the economic situation in Germany was not good. He emigrated to Canada in 1953 where he spent his first few years in Calgary, Alberta. Sieg tried his hand at a few jobs such as a safeway store clerk, an accounting clerk at the City of Calgary and a purchasing/claims agent at a trucking company. Sieg decided to move to Kamloops in fall of 1963 where he started a new job as a Draftsman at BC Tel (now Telus) and was happily employed there for 34 years, retiring in early 1997.

Sieg loved to fly and fulfilled an early ambition by obtaining his private pilot’s license in 1963 through the Calgary flying club and after moving to Kamloops, he joined the Kamloops flying Club. He soon purchased his own Cessna airplane and in the years that followed, he and Shona enjoyed flying to the U.S, particularly the southwestern states. They also enjoyed travelling extensively in Europe. After retiring from BC Tel, Sieg spent his time skiing at Sun Peaks (where he was a season’s pass holder for 20+ years), golfing at the numerous courses around Kamloops, shooting at the gun ranges where he was a member of both the Kamloops & Heffley gun clubs, and volunteering at the Kamloops Heritage Railway Society where he worked on the 1912 #2141 Steam locomotive. Sieg loved all music (he played the bass) but jazz was his favorite. He even had his own late night Jazz radio show at CFJC in the early 1970’s and over the years, accumulated a very extensive collection of records. Because of his employment with BC Tel, Sieg was a proud long term member of the Telecommunications Workers Union.

Sieg was a very smart, kind, humble and generous man who will be missed very much. He lived life to the fullest and was fortunate to enjoy robust health for nearly all his 90 years.

We are very grateful to Dr. Wynne, the administrative staff and the care aides at Kamloops Senior Village for their kindness and compassionate care of Sieg during his final days. Also a big thank you to Dr. Visser, who provided Sieg with wonderful care for many years, until he moved to KSV.

As per his wishes, Sieg will not have a formal internment or funeral service and will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Kamloops. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Sieg’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC would be appreciated. You may offer a message of condolence through Drakes Cremation & Funeral Services for the Imhof family. RIP Sieg, we love you.
