1942 – May 25, 2025
The family of Shirley Diane Miller (neé Metke) is saddened to announce that she passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2025, with the love of her family around her. She will be remembered by her children Timothy Bruce Pollard and Catherine Mae Ishida: her grandchildren and great granddaughter as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Shirley was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1942, to Henry Edward Metke and Ella Mae Metke.
She earned a diploma in Education from UBC and found joy and fulfillment working with special needs children and adults.
Shirley was an adventurer, fishing for salmon and learning how to both butcher and prepare wild meat, when she lived on Haida Gwaii. She loved being the ‘copilot’ on a Cessna 182 airplane and going on holiday with her family. Shirley loved the outdoors, working in her garden and trimming the roses wherever she lived. She hiked the Chilkoot trail and learned how to ski with her family. Shirley earned her Captains ticket, SCUBA certification and ran the galley on the family sailboat with aplomb.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2165 Parkcrest Ave. Kamloops, B.C.
You may offer a message of condolence at Kamloops Funeral Home for the Miller family.
