Shirley Beadle (“Mom”, “Gran”, “GG”).
Mom passed peacefully during her sleep, after 8 long years of living with Dementia (Alzheimers), leaving a legacy behind her setting the bar high for all of us to aspire to when it comes to loving and appreciating family.
Mom was an amazing woman and an extremely loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother! Her family meant the world to her, and it showed in everything she did. She chose a traditional family role as a stay-at-home mother, raising her three kids (Ernie, Gary and Carol), and was the backbone to the family with her inspiring guidance, life perspective, morals, motivation… and the list goes on.
She found great joy in her family-first devoted lifestyle, as well as her hobbies which included horses on the family farm, fishing and camping. Mom and dad spent 69 years of their lives together before dad passed in 2021. In retirement, mom and dad would spend 2-3 months a year on the road, traveling down south, fishing on remote lakes while enjoying the melodies of loons in the distance, or the warmth and serenity of sitting next to a campfire.
Mom always had a smile on her face with a contagious giggle, especially following her cheeky and playful comments and pranks to poke fun at her loved ones. Which always made you laugh at the irony, coming from such a sweet and kind woman. But the family would get to poke their fun back at mom for her lead foot that resulted in a few speeding tickets along the way. Which, again, would have her giggling. She loved life to the fullest and very seldom complained but, if she did, you would run for cover 🙂
There are many fond memories of family gatherings, eating Moms amazing feasts while spending hours having fun together on the farm, playing games such as horseshoes, bocce ball, card games, pool, and darts, or simply sitting around the fire telling stories, laughing and just enjoying the moment. These times meant the world to Mom, and she engraved that family-time enjoyment in all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Especially at Christmas time, her favourite occasion of all.
Mom and Dad’s love story was one for the ages, with passion and perseverance through all that life put at them. It was only suiting that their times on this earth came to a closure in such fitting, sentimental ways. Dad defied the odds, waited until all the family arrived, and made it to the morning of their 69th wedding anniversary before passing.
Then Mom held on just long enough to meet their youngest great-grandchild, named after her, before passing, just in time to spend Christmas back in the arms of her husband.
Mom leaves behind a family that will forever be grateful for her teachings, guidance, endless love, laughter and playfulness:
Children: Ernie (Nancy) Beadle, Gary (Joyce) Beadle, and Carol (Gord) Bailey
Grandchildren: Marie (Chris) Bailey, Ryan (Tara) Bailey, Courtenay (Lee) Johnston, and Lindsay (Thomas) Linford.
Great-Grandchildren: Ava and Parker Ross, Bryce Bailey, R. and H. Johnston, and Joanna Linford.
As well as many bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Cathy (David) Beecham, Stephanie (Matt) Baird, Jennifer (Matt) and Elias Yodogawa, Darrel (Gina) and Charlie Beadle, Amanda (Steve) Callum and Everett Gregorig, Matt Ross, Anthony and Spencer Brown, Shia and Gus Linford.
Mom requested no public service, rather a celebration of life at a private family gathering
If you are so inclined, any donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of Kamloops, whose services assisted Mom and her family through her battle with Alzheimer’s, would be greatly appreciated as a sign of gratitude for their help and to benefit people in the future that suffer from this dreadful disease.
