Sheila Marie Stewart

Posted Apr 14, 2026 | 10:46 AM

May 29, 1938 – March 25, 2026

Sheila Marie Stewart passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, at the age of 87, following a brief illness. She will be deeply missed by her beloved younger sister, Maureen, and by the many dear friends she gathered throughout her life.

Sheila was predeceased by her parents, John and Ann (O’Toole) Stewart and her older sister, Kathleen.

Sheila was born on May 29, 1938, in Regina, Saskatchewan and spent her early years there before her family moved to Swift Current in the early 1950s. After graduating from high school, she trained as a Laboratory Technologist at Providence Hospital in Moose Jaw. In 1960, Sheila moved to Kamloops where she began a long and dedicated career at Royal Inland Hospital until she retired in 1994.

Kamloops became Sheila’s cherished home and where she lived a full and vibrant life. Sheila and Maureen bought a home together and, sharing a deep sisterly bond, filled their years together with laughter, friendship and countless gatherings. Their home was a welcoming place known for lively bridge games, warm dinner parties, festive Christmas celebrations and joyful birthday gatherings always accompanied by delicious food, good wine and much laughter!

Sheila had a love of the outdoors and an active spirit. She was a member of the Kamloops Golf Club and enjoyed many days on the course. She also organized golf holidays with friends and once played St. Andrews Golf Course in Scotland with her dad. In her younger years, Sheila spent time skiing on local mountains and skating at the Kamloops Arena. In retirement, Sheila discovered a passion for family history. Together with Maureen, she devoted many hours to researching, writing letters, making calls and connecting with relatives near and far. This shared pursuit brought her great joy and deepened her sense of family connection. Sheila also loved to travel and though their favourite travel company, Wells Grey Tours, she and Maureen explored much of the world together. Sheila was proud to have visited every continent except Africa.

A generous and caring member of her community, Sheila volunteered her time as a driver for curling bonspiels and for the BC Cancer van to Kelowna. She also took great pleasure in attending performances by the Kamloops Symphony. Sheila will be remembered for her warmth, her lively spirit, her kindness and her love of bringing people together. She leaves behind a legacy of friendship, family connection and joyful memories that will be treasured by all who knew her.

A Celebration of Sheila’s Life will be held on Thursday, April 23 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Coast Kamloops Hotel. Please feel free to wear bright and cheerful colours to recognize Sheila’s fun-loving personality.

You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Stewart family.
