Sheila Mae Doris Astle

Posted Oct 23, 2025 | 5:27 PM

April 20, 1939 — October 10, 2025

“Be Somebody who makes Everybody feel like a Somebody”

This was Sheila Astle’s lifelong motto, a principle she lived by with grace and generosity.

With great sadness, the family of Sheila Astle announces her passing on October 10, 2025, at the age of 86.

Sheila Mae Doris Englehart Astle was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, April 20, 1939. Her name was supposed to be Sheila Mae, but when her dad went to submit the papers, he added her mom’s name, Doris. Sheila lived in Halifax until her family moved to Alberta when she was 13.

It was there that she met Rodney Astle, who was smitten with her from the moment they met as teenagers. They married on July 11, 1959, and began a beautiful life together that spanned over 66 years. They welcomed four children: Nancy, Craig, Janet, and Brent.

Sheila and Rodney made several moves throughout their life: from Alberta to Kamloops in 1962, a year in Lethbridge in 1974, then to Vernon, before settling back in Kamloops in 1979. In 1983, they found their long-time home in Juniper Ridge, where they have lived for 42 years.

Sheila loved being a mom and was known for her home cooked meals, baking and feeding the neighbourhood kids. She enjoyed decorating her home with beautiful things like China, silver, crystal and art. Every inch of her home was thoughtfully decorated. She enjoyed cake decorating and made her family and others fancy birthday cakes.

Every season and holiday was celebrated with a decorated home and special food. Sheila loved Christmas and held a Christmas luncheon every year for 40 years, where she treated girl friends with good food, visiting and gifts. She enjoyed writing and was published in ‘Women’s World’ magazine, with an article about Christmas. She won many prizes for recipe and story submissions to the paper.

Always organized, Sheila loved her daily to-do lists. She enjoyed gardening — her favourite flower being the daisy, which she carried in her wedding bouquet — as well as needlework and crafts. She lived by the motto to “wear out, not rust out,” staying active with twice daily walks, mobile biking and continuous service. An animal lover, she cared for many cats and dogs throughout the years and loved watching the birds at the feeder in her backyard.

Sheila was a woman of faith. She volunteered and served her whole life in different teaching and leadership positions in her church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many years she helped in fundraisers making chocolates, chicken pot pies, and bake sales.

She spoiled and loved all her 15 grandchildren: Joshua, Jared, Matthew, Nathan, Mychal, Heather, Sydney, Jessica, Joel, Hannah, Daniel, Bruce, Katelyn, Alyssa, and Selina.

She had 18 great-grandchildren: Eli, Simon, Oliver, Harper, Atticus, Evie, Arrow, Wilde, Fox, Noelle, Esther, John, Hudson, Porter, Gio, Nya, Madison & Abigail. She was known for her endless supply of Lindt chocolate and goodies for all of her family, friends and anyone who came to her home. She was always giving, complimenting and loving to everyone she knew.

She is survived by her husband, Rodney, her brother Tom (Linda) Englehart and her children Nancy (Gary)Robillard, Craig (JoAnn) Astle, Janet (Robert) Chenuz. She was predeceased by her son Brent Astle, granddaughter Sydney Robillard, and sister Joan Baxter.

Sheila fought the good fight, kept the faith, stayed on the covenant path and completed her earthly mission well.

A private family service was held on October 18, 2025.
