November 11, 1960 – October 19, 2016
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Alexander Savovich at the age of 55.
Alexander was born in Kamloops, B.C. in 1960. He is predeceased by his mother and father, Angelina and Djuro Savovich. He is survived by his three sisters Olga Savovich, Jelena (Craig) Beeson, Anka (John) Meyers and his nieces and nephews; Angela (Ryan) Dale-Johnson, Matthew Beeson, Crystal Meyers and Julie Meyers.
We are so proud of the work Alex did for 20 years as a Certified Driller, Blaster and First Aid Attendant. He worked for R.F.Welch, Cougar Rock (Joe Postarero) and Chimera Springs Rock Works (Mike Hall) helping to keep roads, highways and railroad tracks safe for travellers in B.C.
His first job in Kamloops at the age of 16 was working for Frank Swiatkewich’s Postal Delivery Service. After retiring from Rock Scaling, he worked at the C Restaurant, the Plaza Hotel and more recently for The Kamloops Daily News. Five years ago he started up his own small business called North Okanagan Powerwashing Service.
Alex suffered from chronic pain and developed a respiratory disease called Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder. This made it very difficult for him to breath. Despite his illness he worked hard and was a devoted and loving friend, brother, son and nephew.
He was an amazing chef often delighting us with his culinary expertise being able to serve up dishes from ethnic cuisine around the world – insisting on the best and freshest ingredients for his dishes. Alex was also a talented gardener, carpenter, plumber, brick layer and all around handyman; a generous, warm, kind, sincere brother, son and friend. He liked to read, to watch movies and to learn. He was a true lifelong learner. He especially loved his dog Loki-Alexis and together they would enjoy daily nature walks.
“God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so He put His arms around you and whispered “come to me.” With tearful eyes I watched you and saw you pass away although I love you dearly I could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to me He only takes the Best.”
Alex is the best brother that a sister could ask for, and he cared deeply for his sisters and their families. We shall miss him more than words can express. He will be with us in our minds and hearts forever.
A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of All Saints 1044 8th St, Kamloops B.C. The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Church. Reverend Father Roman Trynoha, Celebrant.
