February 13, 1944 — March 23, 2025
With deep sadness we announce the passing of a great man, Robert K. Bennett on March 23rd, 2025.
Robert was born in Kamloops, BC, on February 13th, 1944. He was raised in Douglas Lake from infancy until the age of 17. His love for horses made him a great horseman during his years growing up there. When he left Douglas Lake, he brought with him a good herd of horses and settled on the Kamloops Indian Reserve with his mother, Mary Bennett, and father, Ed Bennett.
Robert began working in the logging industry at a young age, operating logging equipment through most of his early years. He worked for Crestbrook Forest Products in Creston, BC, and later for Jack Herman and Mattey Bros Logging in Chase, BC. He was also employed at Afton Mine until its closure. In 1990, he had a house built on the Kamloops Indian Reserve and moved back to Kamloops. After Afton Mine closed, he continued working for the Kamloops Indian Band in the Public Works Department until his retirement.
Dad met the love of his life, Julia and they were married June 26th, 1971. They had two sons Darrell and Barry. Dad and mom were always together and loved being with family at dinners, visiting with family and friends. Dad made friends wherever he went, and he was always the first to drop whatever he was doing to help someone in need. He loved the casino and as much as winning was the goal, Dad loved connecting with family and friends and having a good visit and to catch up.
He will be deeply missed by his sons, Darrell (Cody) and Barry (Kelly); his grandchildren, Kennedy (Zac), Oscar, Bart (Hayden), Kiya, and Denaya; and by numerous extended family members, including brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife Julia, his parents Mary and Ed Bennett, and his siblings: brothers Robert Larue and Gabriel Larue, and sisters June Larue, Margaret Leonard, Louise DeGroot, Elizabeth Paulsen, and Christine Tronson.
A service will be held on Saturday, March 29th at St. Joseph Church at 10:30 a.m., with a light luncheon to follow at Moccasin Square Garden.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Overlander Extended Care (Evergreen Wing) for the care and kindness shown to Robert until his passing.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the local Parkinson’s or Dementia societies of Kamloops.
