July 15, 1937 – April 19, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Grant Hermiston, 87, of Kamloops, B.C., on April 19, 2025, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Grant was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and raised in Wynyard, where he completed high school. He later moved to British Columbia to begin a long and dedicated career with the federal government as a flight service specialist, retiring after 35 years of service.
In 1956, Grant met the love of his life, Janet, on a blind date. They married in September 1957 and together raised five children. Grant was deeply involved in his children’s activities and was a dedicated supporter of minor baseball, continuing to umpire men’s and women’s leagues for many years.
In retirement, Grant embraced an active lifestyle—he enjoyed golfing, skiing, playing pool, watching the Kamloops Blazers, and travelling with Janet. They spent countless cherished hours together exploring new destinations in their fifth wheel, always finding time to stop at golf courses along the way. He especially loved their trips to the chuckwagon races.
Grant was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Violet Hermiston, and his sister, Audrey. He is survived by his beloved wife Janet; his children Greg (Marilee), Linda (Rick), Susan, Mark (Magdalena), and Diane; his eight grandchildren Jordan, Daren, Corey, Christopher, Kimberly, Justin, Juliana, and Kayla; and his five great-grandchildren Kennedy, Parker, Rocky, Sophia, and Charlotte—with one more on the way.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Overlander Residential Care for the outstanding compassion and care they provided Grant.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Grant’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or Overlander Residential Care. The family has planned a private graveside service.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Hermiston family.
