March 5, 1955 – September 2, 2024
It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Robert Gavin Windeler. Robert was a trooper as he went through a lengthy cancer battle.
Rob was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario by his mother Patricia Windeler and Grandmother and Grandfather; Daniel and Edith McCarthy. He also spent time with his Aunt and Uncle; Barb and Ray Long.
After completion of high school, Robert moved out west to Edmonton, Alberta where he completed the Bachelor of Science in Forestry at the University of Alberta. He moved out to British Columbia where he start his career with the Ministry of Forests in Horsefly. This is where he met his first wife Shirley, and in 1989 they would have their first and only child, a son named Riley.
Riley was the light of his life. They spent their early years farming in Horsefly, a town where everyone knows everyone. Rob was one of those people who would light up a room when he walked in.
In the early 2000’s, life would change for Rob when he met his second wife Victoria. They eventually moved to Kamloops where Rob would spend his remaining years. Rob’s time on earth came to an end on September 2, 2024, with Riley at his side. He is pain free and watching over his family and friends with a smile on his face.
Rob’s family would like to thank the staff at a variety of care homes in the Kamloops area, along with the staff at Royal Inland Hospital for the care in his final months.
You are missed and loved Dad.
A small get-together will be held in Horsefly, at a later date, to celebrate Rob’s life.
