July 26, 1944 – October 14, 2025
Bob Simpson, age 81, passed away in Kamloops, B.C. on October 14, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him.
Bob was born on July 26, 1944, in Kamloops, B.C. He was a Westwold boy, and loved that community all his life, staying in touch with many from his hometown. His brother Al was his best friend his entire life, and he loved riding his bike all over the valley, collecting agates and swimming in Monte Lake. He won a pig as a prize two years in a row at the Westwold Fall Fair in the ‘greasy pig” chase. Bob was a great skater and played hockey on Monte Lake every winter. He drove logging trucks for Buff lumber for a year after high school and never lost his appreciation for a good cut of wood.
Bob loved music, and he played his saxophone for the “Rockin’ Rebels local band. He loved to play the Banjo, and later the Banjola. His daughter and granddaughters were amazed by the musical abilities he shared with them. He loved to make people smile with his music- even up to the end he was singing to his granddaughters. Bob was a great singer, with a great ear for music. He was always whistling when he was happy.
Bob became a chartered accountant, starting his own practice with his office in his bedroom. Eventually he moved to a formal office downtown and prided himself on leading a team. Later, Bob branched out into land development with his cousin, Val Pringle. He loved the challenge of researching and planning land development brought. Many people are able to enjoy places now that were previously inaccessible before Bob figured out how to develop them. Bob was a visionary in this way and was admired for innovative thinking and creative planning.
To know Bob on a personal level was to love him. He was jovial and loved nothing more than telling a good joke. Bob was friendly and welcoming and could turn any comment you made into a pun. Bob always thought “the more the merrier” and everyone was always welcome at his homes and celebrations. Bob loved animals and has passed that love onto his own daughters and granddaughters. His dogs were important to him and were constant companions. He loved being outside, trekking through the bush, and mashing sage and cedar between his fingers so he could smell the amazing nature as he walked. He loved scouting out the best spots to pick berries or have a picnic. He has passed on his passions to his daughter and grandchildren, and for that we are forever grateful. Bob had a sweet tooth, and he loved sharing treats with the people he loved. Bob loved sharing how “sweet” life could be with those closest to him.
Bob will forever be remembered for his gentle, generous, good-humoured nature. We are all lucky to have been loved by Bob.
