February 28, 1930 – January 10, 2020
Robert (Bob) Steeple passed away peacefully on January 10th 2020 at Overlander Extended Care Hospital with family by his side. Bob was born February 28th 1930 in Vancouver, BC. He spent his childhood in Vancouver and growing up he had many pets; rabbits, ducks, cats, chickens and a horse. His love of horses grew and with his horse he participated in Gymkhana, horse square dancing at the P.N.E. and in Stanley Park. He also loved the sport of rodeo and competed as the “ear man” for the “wild horse event”. As a young man he moved to Burnaby, where he met the love of his life Beverly Ann Kerr. They were married May 8th 1954. Bob worked at Commercial Body building truck chassis and developing his trade, it’s no wonder he loved trucks.
In 1955 Bob & Bev moved to Kamloops where Bob worked for Syd Smith Chev Olds in the body shop and progressed to body shop manager. Bob & Bev built a house in Westsyde where they lived with their 4 children. In 1963 they purchased their ranch and the family moved to Ducks Meadow near Monte Lake, BC. A selling feature for Bob was that the railway ran thru their property, as a young boy his mother would take him to watch trains. In 1972 Bob changed careers and went to work as a ranch hand for Demarnis & Everett ranches doing what his heart drew him too. Then in 1977 Bob went to work for BC Livestock as a welder, with the perk of working with the cattle and horses there. In the spring of 1990 he retired to spend more time with Bev, whom he fondly referred to as “The Queen of Ducks Meadow”, riding his horse Trigger, playing with his dog Bosco and working his ranch. Bob & Bev lived at their ranch happily for 52 years, before he had to move to Overlander care facility.
Over the years Bob created so many wonderful memories that his children and grandchildren will cherish in their hearts forever. We all remember riding on the hay wagon, in the back of the truck in the field, swimming and fishing in the creek and helping with the animals on the farm. Bob was and is an endearing soul who will be fondly remembered for his love of his family, animals, trucks & trains as well as his work ethic and his willingness to lend a hand.
Bob is predeceased by his Mother and Father (Winnifred & Albert Steeple), his sisters (Margaret Goode & Doreen Williams) and Mother in law & Father in law (Freda & James Kerr).
Bob is survived by his lifelong sweetheart “Beverly Steeple”, they were blessed with 65 wonderful years of marriage. Daughters Sandi (Dan) Callaghan, Cheryl (George) Sahota. Sons Kevin (Betty Norton) Steeple, Dale (Heather) Steeple. 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
A huge thank you to the amazing staff at Overlander Blueberry & Peach Lanes. In Lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society of B.C.
A Celebration of life will be held in the spring.
“Bob was a cowboy to the core & cowboys never die they just ride off into the sunset”
