Richard ‘Dick’ George Weller of Kamloops, B.C., passed away on March 21, 2024, at 90 years of age. He is predeceased by his loving wife Vivian Weller, and siblings William, Robert, Edith (Babs) Morrison and Helen McDonough. He is survived by his younger sister Patricia Sherwood, his children Victoria (Christian) Weller, Dana (Marcel) Gibeault, and David (Margaret) Weller, and his grandchildren Chelsea and Dakota Martinez, and Christopher (Celeste) and Sean, and their mother Elizabeth Weller, and great grandson Sawyer.
Dick Weller was born and raised in Toronto where he thrived as a high school track athlete. He went on to work for Avro Canada on the Avro Arrow Jet Fighter. He met his wife Vivian, and they had three children: Victoria, Dana and David. One of Dick’s accomplishments was that he was instrumental in connecting Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis physicians, specialists and researchers across Canada, when JRA was relatively rare. In 1969 Dick moved his family to Kamloops and opened Living Lighting in the Thompson Park Mall. As President of Kiwanis, key accomplishments include contributing to the creation of Pioneer Park and the building of Kiwanis House for persons recovering from substance abuse. He later worked for the Hudson’s Bay Company in the furniture department. In retirement, Dick volunteered for the Red Cross, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, and many other charities. Dick loved watching musicals and concerts, fishing at Paul Lake, attending social activities at The Shores Retirement Residence, meeting friends for a walk and coffee, and spending time with his family. Dick also played a mean trombone.
