Rheta Sharon Lee ("Sharon") Earle

Posted Apr 17, 2025 | 10:40 AM

August 5, 1935 – April 5, 2025

Surrounded by love, our mom passed peacefully on April 5, 2025, at Mt. Ida Mews in Salmon Arm.

Sharon was predeceased by Lorne, her adoring husband of 60 years, and by her youngest son Michael, her parents Wilf and Mildred Brown, in-laws Cam and Doris Earle, sisters-in-law Gwen Jones, Kay White, Marlene Murray and Vivian Brown, and brother-in-law Bob Hatch. She is survived by daughter Sandy Treleaven (Brian), son Scott (Shirley), brother Hayes Brown, sister Sue Hatch and sister Marion (Mel) Miners, as well as many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

Born in North Bay, Ontario on August 5, 1935, Sharon moved with her family across the country as a child living first in Vancouver and later settling in Victoria. When her schooling was done Sharon went to work for the Bank of Montreal in Victoria where her colleague Marlene introduced her to her handsome older brother Lorne, who also worked for BMO. Sharon and Lorne became instantly inseparable and were married in the autumn of 1957.

Three kids and several transfers later Lorne joined the Bank of B.C. and in 1971 the family moved to Kamloops, a city Sharon and Lorne both loved and where they later enjoyed many happy years of retirement together.

Sharon was passionate about her community and was a volunteer extraordinaire; she spent more than 25 years volunteering for the Red Cross, and after a tenacious lobbying campaign was credited with blood donor clinics returning to Kamloops in 2002 after a long absence. She worked hard for her beloved Sacred Heart Cathedral managing the usher schedule and both she and Lorne joyfully volunteered on the 2141 train for many years, culminating in hosting family and friends on the train on the first evening of their 50th wedding anniversary celebrations.

In 1993 Sharon was thrilled and humbled to receive the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of Canadian Confederation from Governor General Ray Hnatyshyn, awarded to persons who have made a significant contribution to Canada, to their community or to their fellow Canadians.

Our family would like to thank Dr. Andrea Rose and the wonderful staff of Mt. Ida Mews in Salmon Arm for their kindness to and care of Sharon over the past year and a half. Special thanks also to the Giddens family, for their friendship and support of Sharon across the years.

A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held later in the spring.
