January 7, 1939 – November 4, 2016
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passsing of Brian Ivan James Rasmussen on
November 4, 2016, at the age of 77. He was surrounded by his loving wife of 56 years Laverne
Rasmussen, and his children and grandchildren at the Majorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice House, in Kamloops, BC.
Brian was born on January 7, 1939, in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Henry and Edith Rasmussen, he
was the youngest of 4 children. In October 1957, Brian went to Regina to join the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police. He was first stationed in Ottawa at Parliament Hill, and then in 1959 Brian was
stationed in Campbell River where he met the love of his life Laverne Daniels.
Brian and Laverne were married in 1960. Throughout the years of being stationed in various
cities in British Columbia, such as Campbell River, Port Alberni, Malliardville, Keremeos, Fort Nelson,
and Grand Forks, Brian and Laverne raised 4 children; Todd, Craig, Colin and Paige. After retiring
from the R.C.M.P. in April of 1982, Brian worked for the British Columbia Coroner Service and settled
in Kamloops, with his wife and family.
Brian is predeceased by his parents, Henry and Edith Rasmussen, his brother Bill (Ellen), his
sister Bernice (Len), his in-laws, Victor and Evelyn Daniels, and his sister in-law Marlene.
Brian leaves behind his wife Laverne, brother Bruce (Anna), son Todd (Nola), son Craig
(Aaron), son Colin (Tannis) and daughter Paige (Darren). Also left to miss him are his grandchildren
Becky (Jeremy), Brynn, Zachary (Lindsay), Dexter (Kourtney), Molly (Mitchell), Joshua, Nathan,
Abby, Olivia, Emira, Kaden and Ainsley. And three great-grandaughters, Ava, Stella, and Thora.
Brian was a man who loved life, and a man who squeezed every last ounce of love, joy and fun
out of life. He was always the first to welcome you in, crack a joke, and offer you something to drink.
Brian had a deep love for sports, which he passed on to his children and grandchildren. He
never missed a game, whether it be his children’s, grandchildren’s, or a professional game on t.v.
Brian loved football, hockey, baseball, curling, soccer, golf, lacrosse, figure skating, and dance.
He was always everyone’s biggest supporter.
Brian will be missed for his love for life, sense of humour, his undying love for his family and
friends, and his love for sports.
Brian lived a life like the George Strait song says ” I ain’t here for a long time, I’m here for a
good time”.
Until we meet again, we love you.
