J.W.R. (Jack) POLLARD 
1928 – 2017 
It is with profound sadness, yet gratitude for a life well-lived, that the family of John William Richard (Jack) Pollard announces his peaceful passing on February 18, 2017, at Kamloops Seniors Village. Jack was the beloved husband of Lois (nee Hogg); devoted father of Jill (Brian) Field and John (Valerie); and dear Bumpa to Devon, Riley and Brodie Field, Jessica (Jason) Rands, Alexander, Sarah and Christopher Pollard. Jack will be lovingly remembered by his aunt Thelma (Bob) Rickels of Billings, Montana; his sister Joanne (Rob) Omand of Langley; his close cousins Art (Joanne) Sparks of Kingston, ON, Louise (Brock) Love of Winnipeg, MB and Dianne (Fraser) Hedley of Kemptville, ON. Jack was born December 28, 1928 in Regina, SK, the only son of C.W. (Bill) and Evelyn Pollard (nee Gerstman). He began his career in broadcasting at CKCK Regina, moving to CJIB Vernon, BC in 1955. In 1961, Jack’s career brought him to Kamloops as Operations Manager at CFCR-TV. Eventually, he became a part owner and managing partner of CFCR-TV (now TV7) and its sister radio stations, CFJC and CFFM, retiring in 1987. Jack and Lois travelled extensively during their 62 year marriage, and enjoyed wintering in Hawaii. In his later years, Jack revived his radio career by volunteering at Thompson Rivers University’s radio station, “The X”, and once again the mellow tunes of his signature jazz program, “Swing Session”, graced the Kamloops airwaves. Jack passed away with the sounds of his beloved big band music playing softly in the background. Jack loved his chosen province, British Columbia, but his prairie roots ran deep, especially when it came to football and The Saskatchewan Roughriders. He was a lifelong fan. The Pollards have been active members of the Rivershore Golf Community since 1988. They passionately enjoyed their home and the exceptional golf course in their close knit neighbourhood. The family wishes to acknowledge Dr. Jeevyn Chahal. She was always there for Jack. We are also grateful for the tender care provided by Kamloops Seniors Village to Jack in his final hours. The family will remember Jack in a private Celebration of Life. Jack’s pets held a special place in his heart. Donations to the Kamloops SPCA, 1211 8th Street, Kamloops, BC V2B 2Y3, would be gratefully appreciated in his memory.
