1924 – 2016
Tomio (Tom) Nakashimada passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 15, 2016. He spent a wonderful 92 years on this earth and will be fondly remembered for his kindness, generosity and quick wit.
Tom was born in Victoria, BC on February 10, 1924. He is predeceased by his wife Sumiko (nee Kato), youngest daughter Julie, parents Kakutaro and Masayo, his older brothers Hideo and Mack. He is survived by his two sisters Mary and Betty (Sach). His children Rick (Maureen), Len (Melodie), Lori (Greg) and Gene (Tama).Grandchildren Chris (Jessica), Stacey, Leanne (Ryan), Jessica (Ash) Kelsey (Richard), Brandon, Jaymie and Shota. Great grandchildren Kato, Miya, Linden, Rhys and Jaxon.
After being interned during World War II, his father told him that he should get a trade as no one can take that away from you. So Tom became a heavy-duty mechanic and for 15+ years he owned his own garages in Kamloops and Salmon Arm. He returned to Kamloops to work for Van Kam, Canadian Auto Carriers and finished his career at the Kamloops Research Station. He was a member of the Kamloops Buddhist Church and the Kamloops Japanese Canadian Association.
The Memorial Service will be held at 1pm on Friday, September 23, 2016 at the Kamloops Buddhist Church, 361 Poplar St, Kamloops
In lieu of flowers or koden, the family requests a donation be given to the Kamloops Buddhist Church, 361 Poplar St., Kamloops, B.C., V2B 4B9.
