November 18, 1941 – April 19, 2024
Our dear Mother Muriel Mary Calibaba (nee Kotopski) passed away on April 19, 2024, at the age of 82. Muriel was born in Grayson, Saskatchewan on November 18, 1941.
Muriel’s greatest joy in life was being a doting wife and loving Mother to her sons, Gregg (Linda), Darren (Shelley), and Dale (Kathleen). Her love did not stop there, as it extended as a grandmother, great grandmother, mother in-law, and sister. Muriel opened her heart and her home to everyone, always insisting that she be addressed as either “mom or grandma”, no matter the relationship.
Muriel loved to cook and took great pride in keeping everything around her impeccably clean. She loved spending time in what she called “gods kitchen”, her yard. As her door was always open, she listened to anyone needing a place to find comfort, even if her own heart was heavy at the time. Muriel loved to dance with her one and only true love, her husband Paul of 65 years. Together they both enjoyed life to the fullest travelling, singing country music together and on Friday’s spending time with friends at the Moose lodge. They often would come home with meat from the meat draws, of which they usually gave away to those who needed it more than they did. Muriel loved to go to the casino which she called, “ching-chinging”, after eating at her favorite restaurant Hoja’s. Her family will find solace in the many handwritten notes she tucked thoughtfully in everything she gave and shared.
On September 12, 2021, time stood still for Muriel as she lost the love her life – her husband Paul. Sadly, her third and youngest son Dale Calibaba passed away on November 26, 2021, due to COVID. Muriel never recovered from such a significant loss in her life and on the eve of her passing with her two surviving sons by her side, Muriel briefly opened her eyes while reaching toward the ceiling saying, “I’m happy now”. On the morning of Muriel’s passing as she took her very last breath on this earth with her son Gregg and his wife Linda, and her son Darren by her side, Muriel suffered no more and left this earth at peace.
She will be remembered lovingly by all her family and friends whose lives she touched along the way. The family of Muriel wants to thank the entire staff at the Overlander Extended care who all provided our mom with the exceptional love and care, of which was truly appreciated by Muriel. Mom you dance again cheek to cheek once more with Dad!
