Matus, Gerald Emanuel

Gerald’s family is sad to announce his sudden passing on January 8, 2019. He was born on August 7, 1956 in New Westminster.
Gerald was a hard-working and intelligent family man with a giant heart. He had the ability to repair or create nearly anything. After building his first home at the age of 24, it was clear that Gerald was a natural “Jack- of-all-Trades”. He enjoyed spending his free time camping, fishing, shooting guns, and spending time with his family.
Throughout his working career, he spent most of his time in mills as a Power Engineer, Boiler Maker and Millwright throughout the province. He also spent some time as a Realtor in the early 80s.
Gerald became a Freemason on October 15, 1995, and was the Worshipful Master of Mt. Begbie Lodge #183 in 2003. Gerald was predeceased by his mother Johanna (2016) and son Sheldon in April of 2018.
Gerald will be deeply missed by his wife of over 40 years Diane, daughters Kathryn Abell (Paul, Jace), Victoria Bennett (Jessie, Kayleigh, Ashlyn, Isaac, Jacob and Connor) and step-son Steven Young (Ryan, Jayde, Nathan and Austin). He is also survived by his father Emmanuel, siblings Glenn (Paola), Gail (Phil), Gina (Harry) and Sheldon’s daughter Alicia.
His smile, his laughter and his larger than life personality will be lost to numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws.
The family would like to thank the First Responders, Doctors and Nurses at Royal Inland Hospital for their tireless efforts.
A Ceremony will take place on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 1:00 pm at the Masonic Lodge in Kamloops. For more information please email Kathryn at kathryn.matus@gmail.com
