(Marion) Thelma Tenning nee Young

October 27, 1919 to July 10, 2025

Way more than a century!

Thelma was born in the Sylvan Valley Ontario to Marion and William Young. The family moved to Vancouver looking for a better life, but her mum died of the Spanish Flu when Thelma was 5 months old. Mum lived through 2 epidemics.

She is predeceased by her two sisters, Lydia Libby and Phillis Young, her first husband Robert A. Laidlaw and the second husband Robert Tenning.

In 105 years, Thelma lived through a lot of changes in the world. She was a trained nurse and worked for many years at Essendale in Coquitlam B.C. She lived in various parts of B.C. until moving to Saskatoon in the 70’s.

Some of her activities in Saskatoon were: Tai chi, Chinese cooking classes, Lawn Bowling, Unitarian Church of Saskatoon, Nutana Lion’s club of Saskatoon and many Cruises and golf games with her friend Leo Hayes.

Thelma led a busy life and was always grateful for the many friends who would come to her aid if life’s problems reared their head. She had a great sense of humour and fun and people were always attracted to her

She lived at the Villa Royale Seniors complex in Saskatoon, where she made many long term friends and really appreciated, the caring staff and all the fun she had with other residence, and the shared baked goodies.

Her last few years were spent in Kamloops, British Columbia at the Kamloops Senior Village and at the Brocklehurst Gemstone Care Centre where she passed away peacefully in her sleep.

We thank the great people at Gemstone Care Centre who cared for Thelma in her last years in such a loving way.

She will be missed by the many people whose life she has touched.

She is survived by her daughter Karen N. Brown (Laidlaw) (and Morley Brown) (and her son Ralph (Fran)Laidlaw, Granddaughter Shelby Laidlaw, Grandson, Allan Laidlaw, 7 greatgrandchildren and 2 great-great granddaughters.

There will be a private family remembrance service in August.
