October 5, 1923 — July 13, 2024
Marguerite Scott passed away peacefully at Gemstone, her extended care home, on July 13, 2024, at the age of 100. She was born in Lohnstorf, Canton Bern, Switzerland on October 5, 1923 and immigrated to Canada at the age of 7. Her first challenge was to learn the English language, which she mastered quickly. She never forgot her homeland and was very fluent in both languages. Her parents purchased property in the Rosehill area of Kamloops, and she lived there with them until her marriage to Stan in January of 1945. They eventually took over the farm and raised their three sons, Ron, Doug, and Ted there. After 62 years on Rose Hill, Stan and Marguerite moved to Kamloops where they spent 20 years in her parents’ Columbia Street home, which she inherited after their passing. She missed the farm but was happy to have all the modern conveniences that city living provided. She enjoyed taking part in several Cattle Drives during those years, enabling her to continue riding her horse, which she dearly loved. She was a respected member of the ranching community and spent many years in 4-H, both as a participant and a club leader.
She was predeceased by her sister, Frieda in 1926, her husband of 70 years, Stan in 2015, her parents, Margaritha and Rudolph Egli, her brothers and sisters-in-law Hanna, Mable, Alice, Joe, Archie, and Ernie, and her sister-in-law Alice Scott.
Left to miss and mourn her are her three sons Ron, Doug (Connie), and Ted (Sue), her grandchildren, Michelle (Barry), Keith (Jill), Darryl (Tracy), Alex (Chelsea), her great-grandsons Landon, Grayson, Jack, and Austin, and her sister-in-law Ellen Verigin.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the care and kindness given to Marguerite from the staff and care aids at both Chartwell and Gemstone, where she spent the last years of her life.
Marguerite will be cremated, and a Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held at Schoening Funeral Services, 513 Seymour Ave, Kamloops, at 1:00pm on Friday, August 16.
Rest in Peace, Mom. You will be missed.
