June 13, 1938 – March 10, 2024
Margaret’s earthly journey ended on March 10, 2024, the victim of Lewy Body Dementia . She was gently cared for by the staff of the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home in Kamloops, B.C., with members of the family around her. She was born to Molly and Louis Young of Fredericton, NB. in June, 1938.
In early grade school through high school at Fredericton High she was tutored on the piano by a special friend Mrs. Lister. At the same time, she started her career at the pipe organ in Wilmot United Church. The congregation gave her keys so that she could practice at noon times and after school. She studied at Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB. and graduated from the Music Department with honors.
In 1959 she married Don Waldon who was studying theology at Pine Hill Divinity Hall in Halifax, NS. Since 1960 Marg animated church music programs in Halifax, NS. Stanley, NB., Dalhousie, NB., Westville, NS., Edmonton, AB., Taradale, NZ., and Kamloops, B.C.
In Kamloops United Church she taught the “Folk of Note” choir the song “Music Speaks” (words and music by Green and Adler). The chorus line is “When All Words Fail, Music Speaks.” All her life Margaret was doing music, music, music!
And – oh yes – she was a fine knitter and weaver. As an entrepreneur she created a business in the Maritimes selling hand-woven goods and then, for 10 years, was the owner and operator of “The Gift Box” in downtown Kamloops.
She is survived by her husband Don, three sons – Vincent, Mitchell and Mark – six grandchildren- Shelby, Morgan, Kyle, Aaron, Devon and Jayne, and a great-grand-girl, Emerson, born to Devon and Andrea.
In lieu of flowers, support for the wonderful work done by The Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home in Kamloops would be very appropriate.
Memorial plans are to be announced.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Waldon family.
