December 31, 1935 – December 15, 2016
On Thursday morning, December 15th, Larry Maloski, 80 years, peacefully passed away at Overlander Extended Care Home. He was the only son of Lewis and Margaret Maloski both of Brandon, Manitoba. He is survived by his brother in law Don Sitter (Leona) and children Karen (Darren Jakabowski), Blaine and Rhea (Sam McKay) of Regina, Sask.
Larry married the love of his life, Delores (Sitter) March 2, 1957 in Regina, Saskatchewan. Their journey to Kamloops came through the Prairies with stops in Saskatoon and Calgary, eventually residing in North Kamloops. It was here that they became the proud parents of Ladd Louis Maloski, and Lisa Katherine Fontaine. Larry always lived modestly, paid in cash, and followed a clear line between ‘needs’ and ‘wants’. In the early 1960s, a local business, B&M Automatic Transmissions Ltd. was born. It was built upon strong customer service, quality workmanship, and an honest day’s work, six days/week for the next 35+ years. It afforded him the means toprovide for his family, and build strong community connections.
Larry enjoyed time in the outdoors and the beauty of the surrounding Kamloops landscape. An avid fisherman, hunter, and nature lover, he became a long standing Boy Scout Leader, who enjoyed sharing the experience of weekend canoe excursions and overnight camping trips with the youth of our community. Importantly, Larry held a hand in the initial construction of Ruckell Point Camp through the 70s on Shuswap Lake. In addition, Larry and Delores were long standing billet parents supporting the Kamloops Junior Oilers and Blazers Hockey Clubs. They were season ticket holders from their early beginnings through the early 90’s and joined the team twice to Memorial Cup Championships in Portland and Hamilton.
On July 14, 1989 he became a widow, and would retire from B&M on his birthday December 31, 1999. Larry proudly wore the title “Grandpa”, devoting himself to supporting his family and spreading kindness and generosity to his grandchildren. He is survived by his son Ladd (Monica) and grandchildren Nicolas, Madison and Connor; daughter Lisa Fontaine and daughter Alexandria; extended family Elizabeth and sons Ryan, Mark and Robbie Cail; Janine McCurdy and daughter Nicole.
An intimate service will be arranged for Larry at Hillside Cemetery July 14, 2017. On behalf of the Maloski family, a heartfelt thank you is extended to the Overlander staff for your unconditional care, love and laughs the past four years!
