June 27, 1928 – June 20, 2024
Lois Irene Pollard left this world on the first day of summer, June 20, 2024, just one week short of her 96th birthday. Saying goodbye through smiles and tears are her daughter Jill (Brian) Field; son John (Valerie) Pollard; grandchildren Devon, Riley (Rachel) and Brodie Field; Jessica, Alexander, Richelle and Christopher Pollard; and great-grandchildren Lukas, Everly and Charlotte.
Lois was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on June 27, 1928, the cherished only child of Zella (Cornish) and Andrew Hogg. Her teenage years were spent in Moosomin. She returned to her birth place to complete her nurse’s training at Regina General Hospital, Class of 1950. Lois was a dedicated Registered Nurse working in all areas of the hospital, but her primary interest was Labour and Delivery. She shared this knowledge at the Royal Inland Hospital School of Nursing (Kamloops) as Clinical Instructor of Obstetrics.
Lois and Jack were married in Moosomin on June 12, 1954. Jack’s career took them to Vernon, B.C. with their three-month-old daughter in tow in the late summer of 1955. Son John arrived in 1957, and by 1961 the family was on the move again to Kamloops where they built a home on Apple Lane in Valleyview. In 1988, Lois and Jack fulfilled their dream of living on a golf course, building a house at Rivershore Estate and Golf Links. They passionately enjoyed their home and the exceptional golf in their close-knit neighbourhood. Lois and Jack travelled extensively during their 62-year marriage and enjoyed wintering (and golfing!) in Hawaii.
After Jack’s death in 2017 Lois regrouped, and in 2018 she became an enthusiastic member of the Kamloops Seniors Village community. She was always one of the first to sign up for KSV’s fun filled outings and activities. The family wishes to thank the dedicated and caring staff at Kamloops Seniors Village. Lois loved each and every one of you!
Thanks also to the staff of Royal Inland Hospital Floor GT7 for their care of Lois these past several weeks, and in her final hours. And a huge thank you to Lois’s GP, Dr. Jeevyn Chahal. She was Mum’s biggest cheerleader!
The family will remember our Mum and Nan privately. If friends would like to honour Lois with a memorial donation, please consider the Kamloops Branch of the SPCA. Donation details are on their website.
You may offer a message of condolence at First Memorial Funeral Services Kamloops for the Pollard family.
