1946 – August 8, 2024
Linda Gayle Daneliuk (née Fenrich) passed away August 8, 2024, just after her 78th birthday.
Gayle was born in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, in 1946 to Marcella and Mark Fenrick, and was one of 12 children. In 1963, when she was just 17, her parents moved the family to Kamloops, British Columbia, and she started psychiatric nursing training a year later. She married Samuel Daneliuk in the mid-60s (they were divorced in the 1980s) and in 1971 she had her daughter, Lynda May Daneliuk, and in 1977 she had Samuel Anthony Mark Daneliuk who sadly predeceased Gayle in 2018. She lived for a short time in Vancouver, B.C., but lived in Kamloops most of her life, and attended the Our Lady of Perpetual Help church for the extent of that time.
Gayle will be remembered for her good humour, her staunch faith, and her strong love for her children. She dedicated her life to both God and her family, and never held a grudge when people hurt her or misunderstood her. She loved to knit and sew, do crosswords and read, and loved a bit of science fiction. She loved people watching, and driving, and when she could no longer drive herself, Gayle grudgingly let her daughter Lynda take over—and still loved going for drives around MacArthur Park. The park was a special place to her, allowing her to people watch, to enjoy the natural setting loving the trees, deer, marmots, birds, and the goslings and ducklings and fawns every spring. She loved to find faces and figures in the clouds and mountains, and was a deeply artistic personality: painting, drawing, making textile art, finding joy in anything beautiful—from great art to little antique buttons.
She worked tirelessly over the years for her church, and throughout much of the late 80s/early 90s she decorated for many events and created a 50-foot mural of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the Jubilee celebration in 1995, held at Riverside Coliseum (now the Sandman Centre). Gayle sewed amazing Halloween costumes over the years, loved a game of crib, had a love of wordplay and humour, taught her children to be strong, but supported them through anything, and was a fantastic mom, member of her church, community member, and friend. Gayle went into hospital in early summer, and sadly passed with her daughter, Lynda, sitting vigil and holding her hand at 3:18 p.m. on August 8, 2024. She will be deeply missed.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m. Father Thomas Arackal, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
Flowers gratefully declined, but prayers and cards are welcome.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cypress Funeral & Cremation, and they are deeply thanked for their kindness, care, and support.
