August 25, 1949 — December 28, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Liliana Posteraro, a cherished mother, beloved Nanna, Zia, and a shining light in the lives of all who knew her. She passed away peacefully on December 28,2024
Born in Malito, Italy, on August 25, 1949, to Giovanni Maio and Maria Nina Sirianni. Liliana was one of many children in her family working on the farm with her mom and dad. She left Italy in 1966 when she was 17, with her brother, to come to Canada. She worked at the Whiteway Cleaners and Scott’s Motel as a chambermaid. She lived with her sister Ida to help her raise her 4 daughters, whom she loved like her own. She would spend hours cooking, doing their hair, dolling them up, and being the best Zia ever to them.
She then met the love of her life, Giuseppe. They had a quick courtship and after lots of chips and cookies, he got approval from her 4 nieces. Then on a snowy Kamloops day, they were married on December 22, 1971. They started their family in 1973 with their daughter Marylee, then came Melisa in 1980, and finally in 1983 she got her beloved son Mike. Liliana loved being a mother. She was always so proud of her kids. Always talking about them to anyone who would listen. She worked hard to make sure they were always protected and had the best. She spent countless days driving from rink to rink being the super mom for Mike when he played hockey. Would spend every Sunday with her sister and the girls so they could all play together. She accomplished much of it on her own since Joe spent many nights away as he started his company in 1985, she spent many hours helping him along with that company as well. They never looked back, the two of them knew that together they could do anything if they had each other and their family. The family was so very important to Liliana.
Liliana was known for her unwavering love for everyone she met or knew. She loved to cook and would cook and entertain anyone who came to her home. Her kindness, love of animals, and her love of gardening were something everyone knew her for. She was the queen of pulling weeds and took so much pride in her garden and yard. She loved to show everyone her beautiful yard filled with flowers, vegetables, and many fruit trees. Always send them home with either tricks on gardening or lots of fruits or vegetables.
She was over the moon in 2002 when she became a Nanna. She lived for her grandchildren and would do anything for all of them. She was known to even bring home new baby animals to the family farm so her grandchildren could help her raise them or raise the ones they brought to her. Her love for her family farm has made it a very special place for all her grandkids. They were her life, and she was always so proud of them. Whether it was baking treats, cooking big family meals, or cheering them on at their sports, her presence was a gift that will forever be treasured. A large piece of all she taught them will live in each of them, forever.
She leaves behind her daughter Melisa (Shaun) Dyck. Her son Mike (Lindsay) Posteraro and her eight grandchildren, Thomas, Derian, Elias and Felix Dyck, Milana and Ariella Posteraro. Nickolas and Mackenzie Shannon. All of whom will continue to carry her values and memory in their hearts. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, resilience, and unshakable love that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She also leaves her brothers Ross and Frank Maio her sister Anna Maria Maio and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her loving husband Giuseppe (Posteraro), beautiful daughter Marylee (Shannon), sisters Ida (Costantino) and Rosina (Maida), brother Tony (Maio) as well as her mother and father.
A funeral for Liliana’s remarkable life will be held on January 10th, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Holy Family Parish. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to either the diabetes association or the Alzheimer’s Society, in honor of Liliana.
Though she may no longer walk beside us, her love and light will guide us forever.
