June 6, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Laurence (Larry) Edward Metz. He passed away suddenly on June 6, 2025, at 77 years of age.
Larry is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Eileen (Taffy) Metz, his brother Greg Metz and his wife Colleen, their son Aaron as well as Sister-in-law Barb and husband Rick and east coast nephews Will and Matt. He was predeceased by his parents Edward Metz, Muriel and Allen Knight. Larry was born in Calgary. He lived and thrived in Revelstoke throughout his youth. He eventually moved to Vancouver to pursue his career in Government Services. Larry retired in 2004 as a member of the executive team at Canada Border Services Agency.
Larry had a keen interest in the Studebaker Drivers Club and just recently received the 50-year membership pin of which he was very proud. He was also one of the judges for the SDC Newsletter Competitions. He was the editor for the BC Southern Interior Club’s newsletter, Tempo for 10 years. He also had two 1962 Studebakers which lived a good life in the summer home in Sicamous. He was very proud of both cars and was constantly working on something related to improving them.
Larry was a very talented guy and dabbled in art, woodwork, leatherwork, needlework, among other things, with great success and enthusiasm. When he wasn’t involved with his many interests, collections and hobbies, he also served on two strata councils.
Special thanks for the extraordinary care given by the ICU at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops where Larry passed away. Donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in his memory.
You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral and Cremation Services for the Metz family.
