February 5, 1954 – July 30, 2025
It is with great sadness that the family of Lance Eden Beatty announces his sudden passing on July 30, at the age of 71. He is survived by his wife, Janet of 18 years; former wife, Wendy; his two sons Bart (Sarah) and Justin (Audrey); his four step-children, Jonathan, James, Jason and Jennifer; his seven grandchildren, Lucas, Lane, Nathan, Cheyanne, Tyson, Jaxson and Brooke; two sisters Marlene (Dave) Crane and Stella (Allan) Moore; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Ronald and Sibyl Beatty, his brother David (Randi) Beatty, and his sister Barbara (Terry) Moore.
There are people you meet in your life that are hard to forget. Lance was one of those people. He was a magnet for dogs and children, often irreverent, always charismatic. He was a wonderful storyteller with a great sense of humor. A bit of a rebel, he said he was the cause of his mother’s grey hair.
Lance was born in Kamloops on February 5, 1954. He lived most of his life in Chase, leaving school in grade 10 to begin working in the logging industry. In 1979 he married Wendy Todd. Their son, Bart was born in 1980 when he was driving a logging truck in Prince George and three years later, after moving back to Chase, Justin was born. Lance did various jobs in the bush, but for over 50 years he drove either logging truck or lowbed. It seemed there wasn’t a piece of equipment he couldn’t operate or expertly load on a lowbed.
In 2002 Lance spent 2 ½ years in Iraq, first driving convoy for the U.S. Marines and Army, then becoming a convoy commander and finally working in the office coordinating missions. In Iraq, Lance used up a few of his nine lives. An IED blew up his truck and he had many close calls with tracer fire.
After reuniting with his childhood sweetheart in 2007, Lance fulfilled his lifelong dream of becoming a farmer. When the Chase Heat Hockey Team was formed, the farm became home to hockey billets. Over the years, Lance was a billet dad to over 50 boys and he built an amazing rapport with these young men.
Lance died doing what he loved, haying his land.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Chase Christmas Hamper Society (AKA the Chase Food Bank) would be greatly appreciated. A celebration of Life for Lance will take place at the Chase Community Hall on Saturday, August 16 at 2:30 p.m.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Beatty family.
