Denis W. Ladouceur of Cache Creek passed away peacefully July 5, 2019 at the age of 71. He will be fondly remembered forever by his large and loving family. His gentle smile that lit up a room will be missed. Denis is survived by his children Denis Ladouceur of New York City, Sherrie Dougherty of Kamloops, Deborah Friesen of Kamloops, Laurie Friesen of Chase, Dean Friesen of Sorrento and loving grandchildren (Sharmaine, Billy, Kendel, Dustin, Daniel, Heidi, James and Nicole). He was blessed with large maternal (Vallee) and paternal families of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and lifelong friend Larry (Lucie) Chenier. Denis is predeceased by his son Chal Ladouceur (2004) and partner Joan Friesen (2018).
Denis was born on October 9, 1947 in the small mining community of Chaput Hughes, Ontario. He was the second oldest of nine siblings: sisters Louise (Frank Conrad), Linda (Dave Hurd), Andree, Joanne (Dave Krupa) and brothers Marcel, Richard (Glenda), Yvon and Luc (Susan). Denis was actively involved in hockey, football, baseball and broomball. If he wasn’t playing he was watching or coaching. He graduated from KLCVI secondary school, attended Laurentian University, Sudbury and graduated from Northern College, Kirkland Lake with a diploma in business. He played both university football and college hockey and was a lifetime loyal fan of the “Habs”.
Denis married his childhood friend Sharon Cunningham (Cobalt / Kirkland Lake) and moved his family to Ashcroft, British Columbia in 1980 where his two sons Chal and Denis were raised. Denis took great pleasure in coaching Chal and Denis in both hockey and baseball.
Denis and Joan met in Cache Creek and were devoted partners of 30 plus years until Joan’s passing on March 29th, 2018. Joan accompanied Denis on his journey with his Wurth career and set up home at each transfer, finally settling back into the Cache Creek area for their retirement years so they could be closer to their children and grandchildren.
A significant part of Denis’ life was a long and rewarding career at Wurth Canada with postings in Grand Prairie, Cranbrook, Dawson Creek and Kamloops. His clients and colleagues were like family to him.
Denis valiantly faced many health challenges in his later years with considerable grace. The family would like to thank the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home for their wonderful care of Denis. In lieu of flowers, donations in Denis’ memory can be made to the Hospice.
