1943 – 2016
It is with great sadness the family of Richard “Dick” Steve Kunz announces his sudden passing at home on Saturday, July 9th, 2016. Dick was born on February 19th, 1943 in Lethbridge, AB. Dick is survived by his loving wife, Paulette, his son Dwayne (Williams Lake), his daughter Kathy (Nico) Bakker, and his granddaughters, Natasha, Kristen, their dad, Rick Phripp and Nico’s daughter Evie.
Dick spent his younger years in Scandia, AB. The family then moved to Leroy, SK. Dick decided at the young age of 16 to venture out and moved to Dawson Creek, BC. Shortly after his family decided to move to Dawson Creek too. Dick’s trade was a heavy duty mechanic; he worked at the WAC Bennett Dam in Hudson Hope. He then worked at McCoy Bros. in Dawson Creek. On July 2nd, 1966 Dick married Paulette Diane Harrick in Plainsview, SK; they made their home in Dawson Creek for a number of years. In 1967, son, Dwayne was born and daughter Kathy followed in 1974. In 1975 they moved to Kamloops where Dick worked at Koroll Frame & Steering. Dick then decided to venture out on his own and purchased Kamloops Frame and Steering. Dick also worked in various mines throughout BC until he retired.
Dick always loved a good party with his family and his many friends. He loved to play his guitar, and his fiddle. A favorite past time after his retirement was helping his son with his catering business and going over to his daughter’s home to sit back have a glass of wine with Kathy and listen to all his old time records. Another past time he loved was playing Keno.
Dick is also survived by his brother Larry (Johanna), Rolla, BC, his sisters Denice (Reg) Gudlaugson, Prince George, Audrey (Lyle) Dennis, Prince George, Marlene (Norm) Aldergrove, Cheryl (Tim) Victoria and by his sister-in-law Debbie Kunz, Vernon BC and brother-in-law Ken Ollenberger, Grand Forks, BC. His brother-in-laws Mervin (Lucille) Harrick, Regina, SK, Jerry (Beryl) Ituna SK, Wayne (Cathy) Willowbrook, SK, Ivan, Lacombe AB, Jeff (Shelley) Ituna, SK, Miles (Lisa), Innisfail, AB, sister-in-laws, Cindy (Norm) Konechny, Melville SK, Leona (Paul) Molnar, Melville SK. His memory is cherished in gold by his many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by Kenny Chesney’s namesake “Ches”, his four legged buddy.
Dick was predeceased by his Dad, Leo, 1990, his mom, Johanna, 2013, sisters Brenda, 1973, Loretta, 1999 and his brother George in 2010. His father-in-law, Paul, 1990, mother-in-law Mary, 2013, brother-in-laws David, 2002, Randy, 2007 and Warren, 2009.
A “Celebration of Dick’s Life” will be held at 2PM on Tuesday, July 12th at 2686 Thompson Drive, Kamloops, BC In lieu of flowers please play a few games of Keno in Dick’s memory.
