It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elsie Kopas (Zowty) on March 10, 2017 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Elsie was surrounded by her loving family during the last few days of her life.
Elsie is survived by her children: Gary (Bonnie) Zowty of Kamloops, Darlene Browne of Kamloops, and Richard (Barb) Zowty of Williams Lake, grandchildren: Stephanie (Karl) Brundritt, Carrie (Mike) Hurton, Erin (Kevin) Trott, Chelsea Wood, Breelyn Zowty, great-grandchildren: Abigail, Ty, Kayden, Jonathan, Lucas, Rebecca, Nicholas, Sammy and Andie, sisters Shirley (Ross) Harvey and Cathy (Gunther) Moerkevken, many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John, sons Donald and Larry, husband Rod Kopas, brothers Bill (Sonny), Tom, Harry and Dick.
Elsie was born April 24, 1935 in Osoyoos, BC and lived in the Okanagan where she met her future husband, John. They were married in Orville, Washington on July 11, 1951. Elsie was a stay at home mom for many years raising her five children. John and Elsie and family settled in the Cariboo in 1964. They purchased Glendale Mercantile in 1970 and John started John’s Electric. In 1979 John and Elsie opened the Work Barn Clothing store where they ran the business together until John’s passing in 1994. Elsie continued to run the business until she retired in 1997. Elsie remarried in 2002 to Rod Kopas who predeceased her in 2005. Elsie will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Pioneer Complex in Williams Lake, BC at 1pm. A special thanks to the nurses and care aids at Marjorie Willoughby Hospice Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice at 72 Whiteshield Cres, Kamloops, BC, V2E 2S9.
