Kevin Gerard Martin

New

Posted 24 hours ago

June 16, 1961 – March 28, 2026

Kevin was born on June 16, 1961, in Kamloops, B.C. and with great sadness passed away peacefully in the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops B.C. on March 28, 2026, at the age of 64. Kevin had fought courageously with his prolonged illness and is now at peace.

Our younger brother will be dearly missed by his three siblings, Paul (Helen) Martin, Vicci Nelson, Brendan (Jayne) Martin. Kevin was loved and cherished by family. A loving Uncle to Jeremy (Katie) Nelson, Chris (Courtney) Nelson, Stacey Nelson, Mike Nelson (Sara Rinaldo), Ashley Martin (Jon Holmes), Kim (Mike) Weber, Andrew Martin and Bryan Martin. The love and messages from all his nieces and nephews and the 12 incredibly special great ones-(nephews and nieces) brought a big smile in his final weeks. Special hugs to cousin Brett, friend Rick, nephew Andrew and Jaxon for the extra love and attention Kevin received in the hospital. Special thanks and love to the many friends that reached out and helped or visited Kevin.

Kevin was predeceased by his loving mom and dad, Vic and Elda Martin, in 2010. His loving nona and nono – Marina and Santo Comazzetto, nana and grandad – Charlotte and Ted Martin and many, many aunts and uncles. Special passings to mention are brother-in-law Marty Nelson, nephew-in-law Craig Kinney, cousins Larry and Greg Maralia, Kenny Didrich, Ken McCrindle and Phillip Molitor.

Kevin grew up in Kamloops and spent his entire life in the Loops. In his early years, he was the Fraser Street paper boy, played football for J.P. Junior High School and went on to be a very big part of his community. A passionate Chicago Blackhawks, Beatles, and Monkees fan who worked for many years at the Odeon movie theatre, both downtown and Aberdeen locations, managing and specializing in customer service. He worked as a goal judge for the Kamloops Oilers and Blazers and spent many Easters volunteering for the Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament. Kevin loved the Kamloops Blazers and all the fans in Section Q. His love and passion for film took him to the Kamloops Film Society where he gave his dedication and knowledge to the group, even this year as his health failed. The Kamloops Y became very important to him as getting back into the pool and seeing his friends was always a goal. Kevin will be cherished for his remarkable kindness and the friendly smile he shared with all those he encountered.

The family wishes to give thanks to those who took such good care of Kevin on this medical journey: Dr. A. Azad and Courtney, Dr. P. Mah (Vancouver), Dr. Wiltshire and the Royal Inland Hospital. A special thanks to the nurses who worked on 6th South as you all were incredible. Further thanks to the ICU doctors and staff who were so caring. Kevin always had a deep appreciation for all of you.

Thank you to all the priests – Father Derek and team from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, who spent so much time with Kevin and helped in so many ways.

As Kev would say when he would say goodbye, “take good care.”

This leads us to Kevin’s Celebration of Life.

Prayers will be recited on Wednesday, April 29 at 5:30 p.m., and a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, April 30 at 11:00 a.m. will be held. Both events will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral located at 255 Nicola St., Kamloops. A reception to follow.

In memory of Kevin, contributions may be made to the BC Diabetes Association or the Kamloops Film Society.

You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Martin family.
