Joseph Lewis Buckman, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on December 30, 2024.
Joe was born in Rose Valley, Sask. married Penelope on July 27th 1968 in Thunder Bay, Ont. and graduated from Lakehead University with a BA in Economics in 1969. Joe was the devoted husband of Penelope, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage with 37 of those in Kamloops (Rayleigh). Together, they built a family centered on love, laughter, and mutual support. He was the proud and loving father of Christopher Buckman (Amy), Michelle Asante (Kennedy), and Ryan Buckman (Kathleen), all of whom he cherished deeply. He also has six grandchildren Ruby, Evan, Michael, Emanuel, William and Emily. A true family man, Joe always put his loved ones first, creating countless cherished memories through building backyard rinks, camping trips, and quality family time spent together.
Joe had a passion for life that was evident in everything he did including playing hockey till the young age of 73. He also loved gardening and coaching hockey and watching all of his kids and grandchildren play in various sports. He also found joy in fishing and spent many hours repairing his boats. When he wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, he could often be found in his garage, happily tinkering away on a new project. An entrepreneur at heart, Joe’s ambition and hard work led him to launch several successful ventures, from his own real estate business (Clearwater Realty) and restaurant (Logger Burger). His determination, creativity, and drive inspired everyone around him. He also spent over 25 years part of the Kamloops real estate profession.
Joe will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for his warm heart, infectious smile, and unwavering dedication to his family. His legacy of love and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service and celebration of Joe’s life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC. We would also like to give a heartfelt “Thank-you” to Ridgeview Lodge Baltic staff and Dr.Wynne for their compassion and care they gave Joe.
Joe’s memory will be a guiding light for those he leaves behind. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered forever.
