January 14, 1941 – August 24, 2025
Joseph (Barry) Camille Buholzer passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, in Vernon at the age of 84.
Barry was born in Berwyn Alberta on January 14, 1941, to August and Mary Buholzer. He was the second oldest of 12 children. He started his life as a heavy equipment operator at the age of 14, embarking on a life-long journey in the construction industry. He met Eunice Reid, in Alberta and they were married on November 23, 1963. Together, they had three children Barry, Carla, and Marlo. They moved to Kamloops in 1969 where Barry started his own company, Buholzer Construction Ltd. He was a hardworking man all of his life, working into his late 70’s.
He was a generous person and when we were growing up, he always ensured that we had what we needed whether it was a bike, a car or the pool to hang out in on hot summer days. Barry was the type of man who wouldn’t think twice to give you the shirt off his back to help you out. When he wasn’t hard at work, Barry could be found at one of his favourite neighborhood watering holes, usually the Brock Pub or the Westsyder. He liked to play Keno and visit with old friends. He had a great sense of humour even laughing at his own jokes, and he loved to tease and get a rise out of people.
He was a great papa to his grandchildren, who got to know him well while he lived with both his son Barry in Kamloops and daughter Carla in Vernon.
He was pre-deceased by his youngest son Marlo in 1993 and his wife Eunice in 2007, both of his parents, his three brothers (Ben, Charles and Bud) and one sister (Alannah). He leaves to cherish his memory, his oldest son Barry and daughter-in-law Heather, and his daughter Carla. Barry’s sons Colton (Melissa), Marlo, Adam (Zoe), and Ty (Sol). Carla’s children, Camille, Janelle, Carl, and Troy, and four great grandchildren. His six brothers Wayne (Lisa), Jack (Sandy), Leo, Dave, Lucky (Carol), John (Liz) and one sister, Bonnie (Steve).
Special thanks to all the wonderful nurses and staff at Polson Extended Care Home in Vernon, B.C. for their compassionate care in our father’s final days. There will be no formal service as per our father’s wishes.
We will miss you, dad and papa, and we love you. May you rest in peace.
You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral and Cremation Services for the Buholzer family.
