July 1, 1933 – July 20, 2024   

It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Elizabeth Chacko announce her passing on July 20, 2024, in Kamloops, B.C. 

Born in Cornwall, ON, on July 1, 1933, Jean was the daughter of Margaret and Callum MacDermid. She did her RN nursing training at Cornwall General Hospital and worked at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City before transferring to Toronto General Hospital, where she met her husband, Dr. John Chacko. They moved to Kamloops with the family in 1968. 

Jean is predeceased by her husband John (2006). She is survived by her five children: Sara (Danny), Kate (Glen), Jane (Robin), Leah (Mark), and Andrew (Jaime), and four grandchildren: Lauren, Sam, Ward, and Ben. 

Jean was thankful to her family and friends, who filled her life with joy. The family would like to thank the staff of Berwick on the Park, RIH ED and 1 South Short Stay, the Primary Care Centre in Northills Mall with NP Tonya Becenko, and Home Health Nursing with RN Marylee Weski, for the great care they provided to Jean over the years and particularly in her final days. 

According to Jean’s wishes, there will be no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Jean’s favourite charity, Operation Smile.
