1924 – 2016
Bruce passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Berwick on the Park, Kamloops, BC. He was 92 years old. Forever remembered by his children Bob (Donna) Hunter, Dave (Bonnie) Hunter, Carol (Ron) Dunlop and Ron Hunter; eleven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren; his borther Arthur (Elaine) Hunter; brothers in-law Lance McCormac, Ted McCormac and many nieces and nephews. Sadly predeceased by his parents, wife Elinor (2008), his sisters Muriel Hunter and Edith Doucette, stepmother Celia and sister in-law Gladys McCormac.
Dad was born and raised in Armstrong, BC and very proud of it. He rarely missed the famous IPE (now in it’s 117th year) and Sunday car drives always included a history as well as ice cream. (Thank goodness). In 1945 he enlisted in the R.C.A.F in Vancouver as a mechanic. During this time he was introduced to Mom (a riveter for Boeing aircraft) and so the story of country-boy meets city-girl begins. They married August 31, 1946 and returned to Armstrong where four children, Bob (1947), Dave (1949), Carol (1952), and Ron (1959) arrived on the scene much to his delight. Many good years were spent in IPE country but a move to Kamloops was in their future when a logging contract came up. In 1969, with only little Ronnie and Duke (the family dog) in tow, Mom and Dad ventured north. Being form the Okanagan, fruit trees and berries had to be planted almost immediately! When Dad retired in 1979 they bought a lakeshore lot in Chase and built the home of their dreams. Dad supervised!! (he wasn’t quite in retirement mode yet). They enjoyed the “good life” for almost 24 years until Mom was forced to move to a care home in Kamloops in 2002. Dad spent many hours driving back and forth to Berwick on the Park (regardless of the weather) until her death in 2008. His last 21 months were also spent at Berwick. Bruce, our dad, was a man of strong convictions. He was hard working and tireless and always provided for his family and community. A true hunter and fisherman… we will surely miss his candied smoked salmon at Christmas. He had 3 little chief smokers!. It is comforting to know he has been greeted by his wife, Elinor and Tinker the bichon. Forever in our hearts..
The family would like to offer a very special thank you to everyone at Berwick for the wonderful care Dad received during his time there. It is greatly appreciated. In lieu of flowers please make a donations to a charity of your choice. It was at Dad’s request that there be no service.
