March 10, 1937 – April 3, 2017
On Monday, April 3, David John Hughes passed away peacefully and was ushered into the eternal presence of his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
Dave was born in Kamloops, BC to Ellis and Emma Hughes. Dave was the youngest of eight children; Ernie, Elva, Wes, Ruth, Ruby, Melva and Beulah Elaine. Dave is survived by his sister, Ruth.
In June, 1960, Dave married Alice Friesen and they lived in Kamloops for most of the last 56 years. He is survived by Alice and their children, David, Sandi (Paulo), Dan (Bonnie) and Sharon (Tristian), along with his grandchildren Christy (Tommy), Koby (Chad), Courtney, Bram, Chloe, Kenzie, Jordan (Eddie), Kiera (Evan) and Lindsay, and great-granddaughters, Emory and Honor.
A CNR trainman, Dave left work at age 54 and enjoyed his retirement years tearing down buildings, wheeling and dealing, and entertaining any captive audience with his numerous jokes and stories. Each New Year’s Day, Dave would start to grow his beard so that the grandchildren could paint it green for St. Patrick’s Day. He loved to be goofy with his grand kids and nieces/nephews, who loved him dearly. Dave had spent the last four years at Ridgeview Lodge where he was known for his lively singing voice. Alzheimer’s stole Dave years ago, but his kind and gentle spirit stayed strong to the end.
A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Christ Community Church, (formerly known as Evangelical Free Church), 1132 – 8th Street, Kamloops.
Our family wishes to extended their deepest gratitude to the staff and caregivers of Ridgeview Lodge, and for the exceptional care of Dr. Tom Eccleston.
