1931 – 2019
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of William “Bill” David Hatton. Bill passed away peacefully on December 18, 2019 at the Kamloops Hospice Centre.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Ellie Hatton; sisters, Beryl Radies, Berna Shelbourne and Alice Thomas.
Bill is survived by his wife Shirlee, brother Robert ‘Bob’ Hatton, three daughters, Christine (David), Carol (Colm) and Nadine (Brad), two step-children, Rick (Nadia), Shawna (Rod) and their families.
Bill lived a full and active life. Born in Biggar SK, May 1, 1931 and moved to Oliver BC with his mother and siblings in 1945.
In 1949, Bill joined the Canadian Armed Forces and began his 25 year career as a young soldier in the Artillery and Airborne Regiment at Camp Shilo in Brandon,MB. He volunteered to serve in the Korean War in 1951 and was posted to Seoul, Korea, 1952.
Following 2 tours to Germany and 13 other postings across Canada, Bill retired from service and moved to Quesnel, BC in 1974, worked as Drafting Supervisor with the Quesnel BC Forest Service and 12 years of volunteering, providing leadership and development to the Royal Canadian Legion as president 2 terms and the Quesnel Air Cadet community.
In 1986 he moved to Victoria for a second career with the Province of BC, developing the Provincial Emergency Preparedness program and travelling throughout the province implementing the program in major communities.
Following his retirement from government in 1997, Bill continued to ‘serve’ his community in Victoria when he launched “Scoopy Doo”, his successful pet waste removal business.
In 2007 he moved to Kamloops to finally enjoy his full time retirement which involved a lot of time in his boat, fishing in many of the lakes around Kamloops, and some golfing in between the fishing adventures.
