August 22, 1944 – February 3, 2017
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Hammond at the age of 72. He passed away peacefully February 03, 2017, surrounded by his family in a room full of love.
Jack was born to William and Isabel Hammond, August 22, 1944 in Kamloops, B.C. In 1968, he married the love of his life, best friend and soulmate Barb. Together they raised their two sons, creating a happy and loving family, which was the most fulfilling part of his life.
In 1970, Jack became a strong member of the IUOE (Local 115) as an equipment operator in the construction industry. In 1981 he became a welder, excelling at his trade while working throughout Western Canada, until his retirement in 2001.
He spent many years happily pursuing his passions for mining and prospecting. Many great memories were made while tinkering in his garage with his sons, and a firm belief that a small block Chevy engine would fit, and belonged, in almost anything with wheels.
Jack will be fondly remembered as a man of integrity, dignity and pride, with an honest and straight forward approach to life.
Jack was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was loyal, dependable and quick to lend a hand.
His twinkling blue eyes always held a smile, and his infectious laughter warmed any room and all of our hearts.
Jack leaves behind his wife of 48 years Barb, sons Darryl (Marlene), Jason (Simone), and grandchildren Brayden, Mackenzie, Ashton, Emily and Kash. He is also survived by his sisters Mary, Theresa, Eileen and Rebecca, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased by his parents Bill and Isabel, brother Ted, sisters Marge and Virginia. He will be tremendously missed by all of his family, friends and A&W coffee buddies.
There will be a gathering of family and friends at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Agency.
