June 12, 1949 – August 12, 2022
It is with great sadness that the family of Guy Joseph Roméo Généreux of St Paul, AB, announce his passing on August the 12th, 2022. Guy passed away peacefully with his wife Catherine at his side in Kamloops BC.
Guy was born on June 12, 1949 in St Paul, the third of seven children. After graduating from Collège St Jean, he pursued a career in the RCMP. His first posting was in Québec, where he married his first wife Lise, and welcomed his first two children, Éric and Stéphanie. Guy then went on to teach at the RCMP depot in Regina, Saskatchewan before moving to Ottawa. Next, he was the Sergeant in charge of the Ident Department in Grande Prairie, Alberta. It is here that Guy met Catherine and her two sons Aaron and Sean. Soon they became a blended family and their youngest child, Gabriel was born. In 1994, after 25 years of service, Guy retired from the RCMP and moved to St Paul where he worked as a photographer, a high school student assistant and a coordinator for the St Paul Victim Services Program.
As a proud Franco-Albertain, Guy honored his heritage and was involved in the Francophone community locally and provincially and served as a board member as well as board chair for Conseil Scolaire Centre-Est.
Guy’s final retirement was in 2015.
Guy enjoyed carpentry and building things in his workshop. He also enjoyed spending extended periods of time at his happy place in Criss Creek, BC. He was proud of the outdoor kitchen he built; it was a gathering place where many meals and stories were shared with family and friends.
Guy was truly steered by the compass of his soul; he loved life and could fill a room with laughter. He will be remembered for his courage and determination; he was an inspiration of hope for all that knew him. But mostly, he will be remembered for his authenticity, his sense of humour and his calming presence. He was a kind and gentle man that brought joy into the lives of others.
Guy is survived by his loving wife Catherine, his children: Éric (Marci) Généreux, Grande Prairie, Stéphanie Généreux (Darren Rempel), Calgary, Aaron (Shauna) Nield, Ardrossan, Sean (Corrin) Nield, Edmonton, Gabriel (Emily) Généreux, Sherwood Park; his grandchildren: Solana, Ethan, Félix, Duncan, Kieran, Mika, Téa, Liette, Loïc, and Harper; as well as his siblings: Sister Juliette Généreux, Gisèle (Brian) MacLellan, Paul (Hélène) Généreux, Marc (Raymonde) Généreux, Louise (Doug) Urichuk and his in-laws, the Johnston-Watson clan.
Guy was predeceased by his parents Eugène and Adrienne Généreux, his first wife Lise Chouinard, and his sister Claudette and her husband Al Shenduk.
A funeral service for the late Guy Généreux will be held at St Paul Cathedral on Sept. 10, 2022 at 11 am. Following the church service, the family cordially invites you for a light lunch and a Celebration of Life at the ACFA Community Centre, 4617-50 Ave, St Paul.
