August 30, 1940 – February 14, 2026
Cherished patriarch Grant Richard Robertson, “Robbie”, “The General” aged 85, passed away peacefully in Kamloops on February 14, 2026, lovingly attended by his wife Joan and family.
Grant was born on August 30, 1940, at Vernon Jubilee hospital, middle son to Alice and Bob Robertson. He had two special birth mates, nephew Kyle Harcott and grandson Scott Robertson.
Grant loved his wife and family completely. A true son of the Okanagan born and raised, he had a zest for life and met it head on. Building a family and a business was his life. The love and care he had for his family was enduring and all encompassing.
Grant was an entrepreneur bringing enthusiasm to all his endeavors, including founding General Grant’s Bottle Depot (1982), Shell service stations, Pic-A-Pop, and convenience stores. He was an “ideas” man and would try anything. He had the first convenience store in Kamloops to be open 24 hours. He also drove the “sports run” school bus for District 24, thoroughly enjoying the in and out of town runs with all the various youth.
Grant was very gregarious and charismatic, a well-regarded businessman, rising to the occasion as a member of Phil Gaglardi’s Action 88 slate. A bit of a disruptor, he had a mercurial run through city politics as an Alderman, encouraging growth and fiscal acuity. He exited politics in the early 90s, much to his wife’s delight.
Grant lived a big and beautiful life. His other passions ebbed and flowed throughout his life – raising pigeons, water sports, dogs, skiing and travelling with family, scuba diving, Kinsmen and Rotary. He enjoyed his coffee club friends and playing ‘2birds in the bush” to see who would pay and all their antics. To the end he loved his wife and family, especially his grandkids and “lake life”.
Predeceased by his parents Alice and Bob, favorite M-I-L Pauline Bennett, son Micheal, grandson Gavin and great-grandson Kolson.
Survived by his wife Joan, daughters Kelly and Lucy (Andrew), sons Richard (Tiffanny) and Graham, D-I-L Lisa, grandchildren Keegan (Makenzi), Turner (Michelle), Colton (Laina), Alexa (Blake), Scott (Laura), Ethan, Hannah, Maxwell & Gabriel. Great-granddaughters Annalise and Josephine. Older brother Jack (Linda) Robertson and younger brother Ken (Madeline) Robertson.
There will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Society.
You may offer a message of condolence at Drake Cremation and Funeral Services for the Robertson family.
