Gordon Henry Olsson

April 26, 1953 – January 30, 2026

Gordon Henry Olsson passed away in Kamloops, B.C. on January 30, 2026, at 72 years of age after a short battle with cancer with his family and friends at his side. He is survived by his long-time partner Linda Justus, his daughter Melina, stepdaughter Krista MacKintosh (Mike), his step-grandaughter Bowen MacKintosh. His brother John (Gail), and countless cousins, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents many years ago, and in 2024 his brothers Fred and Larry both passing from cancer.

Gord was born in Revelstoke, B.C. on April 26, 1953. His first job he worked as a paper boy. Later, he started working at Ken Taylor’s garage sweeping floors and helping mechanics, where he began a lifelong fascination with old cars. Gord owned his own excavating company, G.O Excavating, and ran heavy machinery for many years. He had lots of stories of working in Rogers Pass and long winters in Revelstoke. Gord retired in 2013, ending G.O. Excavating which was a surprise to everyone. Gord left Revelstoke for a one-year adventure to Sechelt and then moving to Kamloops in 2014.

Gord enjoyed years motorcycling in B.C., Alberta, and the United States with his friends, and he even did a guided motorcycle adventure in New Zealand in 2010 which was on his bucket list. He loved the endless sunny days in Kamloops barbecuing all year long. He could hardly wait for spring weather, trading his signature sweatpants and wool socks for shorts and sandals. He enjoyed going on camping trips to Martha Creek, and other campgrounds in the B.C. Interior.

Kamloops having garage sales galore became a weekend treasure hunt where he would always end up bringing something home. He realized he didn’t need any more tools or stuff, that he would need to start having his own garage sales. Gord learned how to use the computer, finding YouTube a valuable source of information for whatever project he would be working on. Looking up new recipes on the internet to try out or pulling out a recipe book from the bookshelf, which there were many to choose from. He enjoyed watching old black and white shows like Gunsmoke and M*A*S*H*, running them all day along with CBC radio in his garage. His dry sense of humour either confused you or made you laugh the hardest you’ve laughed. He was a loyal friend and a good friend, who would help you without a second thought if you asked.

Gord was a member of the Antique Caterpillar Machinery Owners Club (ACMOC). So, no surprise that Gord took on a project of rebuilding a D2 bulldozer, spending his days cleaning rusty parts, sourcing parts to reconstruct the bulldozer. Gord teamed up with his cousin Tommy Coueffin and Tom’s son Steve Coueffin to take it to Smithers and finish it. The plan was to see it completed and travel to Smithers for the 2026 fall fair. Gord was unable to see it to completion, but Tommy and Steve still plan to finish the project and put it in the Smithers fall fair with an honorary plaque in memory of Gordon Olsson.

Dad, we will miss you! Your witty comebacks and your grin won’t be forgotten. Thank you for everything. Till will meet again and have a beer cheers!

Respecting Gordon’s wishes, there will be no service or celebration taking place.

You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral and Cremation Services for the Olsson family.
