April 22, 1936 – November 8, 2023
Gordon was predeceased by his parents Henry and Sarah Recknagel, brother Elmer Recknagel, sister Doreen (Paul) Herchak and beloved wife Betty in 2012. He is survived by his youngest brother, Robert Recknagel (Marjory), his 3 children, Martina Martens, Maureen Mior (Darelle), and Martin Recknagel (Alita). Grandchildren – Jennifer, Alyssa, Dakota, and Aiden. He was also thrilled to be Great-grandpa to Chloe, Seth, Phoenix, Hunter and Logan.
Gordon worked hard his whole life. After losing his right arm in a work accident at the age of 17, he attempted working at an office job in New Westminster, but quickly realized that was not the life for him. That started a life in the bush – an accomplished logger all over B.C. He was always proud of the fact that the government would fly him into danger areas during forest fires because they knew he could get the job done. In the late 70’s and early 80’s he owned and operated a shake and shingle mill in Agassiz on the Haig Hwy.
Gordon and Betty moved to Lac La Hache in 1983. Always an avid gardener, Gordon and Betty eventually started a commercial organic garden and sold produce to many of the resorts in the area. He was also seen around the area haying, during the hot summer days.
Eventually dementia made it so Gordon had to move from his “little piece of heaven” on Timothy Lake Road to Ponderosa Lodge In Kamloops. We would like to thank the wonderful staff on
2S who treated him like their family, and where he really loved to be, Special thanks to the recreation staff for all that they did for him. It is all so appreciated.
Rest In Peace, Dad.
