June 19, 1946 – June 24, 2023
Gordon Andrew Cameron-Inglis, was born on June 19, 1946, in Madras, India. He left this life behind him on June 24, 2023, from Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.
Born in an area of Madras, known as George Town, Gordon was baptized and began a new life in the parish of St. Mark’s where his father was the priest. Not long after the family found themselves at All Saints Church in Bangalore until 1951, when at the age of six, Gordon, along with his mother and sisters, embarked on an old troop ship named the Ranchi to rejoin his father in England. This 21-day journey marked the beginning of another new chapter in their lives, with the ship limping back to the UK to end its service and be “broken up” while the family would begin anew once more.
Gordon lived with his parents and five sisters first in Brighton and then for many years at the Dove Holes pastorage. As a young man, he became an accountant for Vauxhall Motors and was married to Evelyn Plumb on July 8, 1967 in Greenwich, London, England.
On March 30, 1971, Gordon left England with his wife Evelyn and son Peter to begin a new life once more. This time in British Columbia, Canada. Gordon left the field of accounting and found solace and a sense of perfection in carpentry, where his exceptional craftsmanship was admired by many. He had been heard on more than one occasion saying that he was following in his master’s footsteps.
He loved the church (especially the Cursillo movement within the Anglican Church), he loved music, a good game of chess, bad dad jokes, a firm handshake, an even firmer hug, a good cup of tea, Marzipan, and creating beautiful things from wood. He was a keen analytical thinker. He was quick to help others and had a deep faith in God. He treasured his friends and family, including his sisters in the UK and loved to engage in deep and meaningful conversations.
Gordon is predeceased by his father, Rev. Ronald James Cameron-Inglis; his mother, Irene Daphne Elaine Allen; his daughter, Heather Lorraine; his foster daughter Lilian Staples, and his sister, Christine (William) both deceased.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children, Peter (Tania) and Hazel (Joel Antler); and his grandchildren, Heather, Erik, Pierson, and Jamie. He also leaves behind his great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Ruddock.
Gordon is fondly remembered by his sisters Dawn, Alma (Ken), Zoe (Phil), and Elspeth (Dave); his nephews and nieces David, Andrew, David, Maxine, Bill (Rachel), Alison, Fiona (Mike); and his great-nephews and great-nieces Georgia, Cameron, Oliver, Benjamin, Gabrielle, Jersey, Christopher, Emily, Halle, Emilie, and Macey.
A graveside funeral for family members will be held on August 3, 2024, where Gordon will be laid to rest alongside his daughter, Heather Lorraine. Following the funeral, a gathering will be held at the Merritt Civic Centre, meeting room 2, with coffee and light refreshments at 11:30 a.m. to share memories of Gordon.
