Gloria June Johnson passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at The Hamlets in Westsyde, Kamloops, B.C.
She was born in Petrolia, Ontario to Jim and Arlene Johnson.
Following her career plan, she graduated from Watford District High School and London Teachers College with an elementary school teaching diploma. After a successful teaching career, which began in 1963 in Ontario and continued in B.C., she retired after 43 years of service. Her love of this profession could be summed up by her frequent saying that, “children are so clever with such potential and I loved every one of them.”
One of her proudest achievements was earning her Master’s Degree in Education from University of Victoria. Another was obtaining her motorcycle license which she accomplished in her 60s.
She is survived by close friend, Keith Hutchison, along with brothers Dan (Stephanie) and Art (Carol) Johnson, nephews Matthew (Brad) and Steve Johnson, nieces Andrea Johnson, Lori (Ryan) Johnson and her two children Isabella and Lucas. Predeceased by brother Richard and wife MaryJo Johnson in 2024.
To The Hamlets’ staff, the family wishes to express their gratitude for providing Gloria with comfort and kindness in those remaining days of her life.
Gloria’s Celebration of Life will be held at Rivershore Golf Course on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In her memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or BCSPCA.
